Kids Late Summer Cooking Camp (ages 7-11)

Come for 4 days, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9 am-12:30pm.
If you’ve got a budding chef in the works, or you just want raise a more competent little human in the kitchen, this is the place for your child for Summer Vacation.?ÿ Each day starts with kitchen cleanliness and safety, then transcends into basic knife skills with a focus on efficiency and working smarter through fun and engaging meal preparation. They will spend time outside on the farm, learning the importance of the connection between farm and kitchen, and even get to spend some time with the animals! By the final day, we think your savvy new cook will be begging to show off their improved kitchen skills at home, with a greater respect for where their food comes from.

 

Monday: From the Coop!?ÿ A tour and introduction to what we do at The Kitchen and the farm.?ÿ Then a trip to visit the ladies in the chicken coop.?ÿ Weƒ??ll learn how to raise chickens, different breeds of chickens and the eggs they lay, and what to do with the eggs when we bring them to The Kitchen.?ÿ Weƒ??ll learn the basics of egg cookery, from over-easy to the perfect baked frittata. Then weƒ??ll mix together a breakfast focaccia sure to knock your socks off! And, of course, weƒ??ll finish with dessert, double chocolate pudding!

 

Tuesday: From the Dairy!?ÿ Weƒ??ll learn about the magical enzymes of fresh dairy!?ÿ From the care of dairy animals to the types of milk, weƒ??ll learn all about what you can do with milk.?ÿ Weƒ??ll make homemade yogurt, fresh mozzarella cheese for pizza, and ice cream ƒ?? all from scratch!

 

Wednesday: From the Garden! Weƒ??ll get our hands dirty learning about bringing things from seed to plant.?ÿ Weƒ??ll talk about organic farming and the importance of “livingƒ? dirt.?ÿ They will learn the components of soil and how we can positively impact the health of our bodies through what we do to the dirt. We’ll spend some time in the garden, harvesting our own vegetables to make lunch. Weƒ??ll learn the lifecycle of a seed, harvesting seeds for next year’ bounty as well as for use in The Kitchen.?ÿ This is a day to bring your boots!

Thursday: From the Orchard & Vine! We will celebrate the magic of fruit!?ÿ Weƒ??ll learn basic pie making techniques, how to make a tasty refreshing summer drink and turn our fresh yogurt into a tasty fruit parfait.?ÿ Weƒ??ll also enjoy homemade jam on PB&Js made entirely from scratch!?ÿ For those that love baking – this is your day!
